Description: This fine large Coast Salish or Samish basket features beautiful imbricated butterfly designs on its sides and lid. This was clearly a basket that was made for tribal use. The round lid has the remains of old rawhide hinge and closing straps. The basket is in very good condition with a few minor losses. It is a truly outstanding and dramatic example of this tribes basket making skill. I believe it dates to the 1st quarter of the 20th c. Stock Number SA2D-355
