First Day Cover honoring "Seasons Greetings Around The World", 20-cent stamp picturing Santa Claus affixed, postmarked Santa Claus, Indiana, October 28, 1983, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Above his signature, the composer has drawn a bar of music, which he has titled: "Sil-ver Bells", the popular Christmas song that he co-wrote with Ray Evans. The song was introduced in the 1951 film, Lemon Drop Kid, starring Bob Hope. In 1998, "Silver Bells" was ranked #8 on ASCAP'S "Top 25 Holiday Season Songs". American composer Jay Livingston (1915-2001) won Academy Awards for "Buttons and Bows" (The Paleface, 1948), "Mona Lisa" (Captain Carey, U.S.A., 1950) and "Que Ser Ser" (The Man Who Knew Too Much, 1956) and was nominated for an Oscar for "Tammy" (Tammy and the Bachelor, 1957). In addition to his songs for Hollywood films, Livingston penned many popular television themes, including those for Bonanza and Mr. Ed. Lightly creased, light diagonal crease at the "y" of Jay. Fine condition. Framed with a photograph of Livingston that has imprinted musical quotations from several of his most well-known songs. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 21x17.
