The rim depth of 45 mm is the same as its predecessor, the disc brake 302. But the rim width is 2mm wider, at 27mm, and its tire bed is 7mm wider, at 23mm. That rim platform is designed to be fastest with a 28mm tire. The wide rim optimizes the tire profile to allow for lower pressure. This helps reduce rolling resistance and provides a more compliant ride. The result of all this is a 10% watt savings versus a similarly sized wheel in terms of total power required to ride at 40 km/h on a flat, smooth road with a 28 mm tire, according to Zipp’s internal testing.
